I’ve known this family for quite a while now that I think about it. I used to work with Justin in high school over 10 years ago (wow, it hurts a little to say that out loud) and Kortney and I have been in MOMS Club together for at least 2 years now. They are both just the sweetest people and I’m happy we are friends.
Their little girl has a spitfire personality and I think it’s great. I knew going into the session that I was going to have to work to get smiles out of her. She surprised me and gave plenty of cheesy grins without too much effort on my part, but I waited for the in-between moments for my favorite expressions. That is totally where the magic happened, what a sweetheart!
We crossed a dry creek bed (and I didn’t even use any of those shots LOL) and trudged through mud but in the end this was a pretty great session. Thank you Justin & Kortney!
behind the photos | the light was perfect, the weather was perfect, we really couldn’t have asked for a better night. Lightroom edits were about half and half, Mastin + hand edits. Shot with Canon 5D III. I started with a 35L and then switched to 85 1.8 for the majority of the shoot. I’ve recently started forcing myself to take that one of the camera bag and every time I do I fall a little bit more in love. Heck of a lens for the budget price. The compression of backgrounds is just incredible. Very happy how these photos turned out – an awesome mix of my favorite moody b+w edits, pretty color shots, and hazy shots (I never create haze in post editing, it is always 100% natural and I love when it occurs)
